Elkin City School is proud to announce that on February 2, 2023, our Global E-Learning Academy received recognition as North Carolina's most recent Global-Ready Model District. What does this mean?
The Global-Ready designation signifies a district’s or school’s commitment to ensuring students are globally engaged and productive citizens. To achieve this designation, districts and schools complete a rigorous application process. This application includes narratives and links to evidence which demonstrate their effort to prepare students to live, work and contribute to an interconnected world. Successful Global Ready district applicants implement best practices in global education, thereby impacting their students, schools, educators, and community.
The NC Global-Ready District Implementation Rubric is built around North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s “Global-Ready District Attributes,” which describe characteristics of a high-quality Global-Ready District. The Overarching Principles and Attributes define essential components central to developing lifelong skills and competencies with their students. Districts can be recognized through the Global-Ready District designation process by demonstrating that they meet the criteria on the rubric at the "Prepared" or the "Model" level.
Elkin City Schools has earned the model Global-Ready District designation. Elkin City Schools implements systems and structures to support global readiness for all of their students, such as integrating global competencies into curriculum pathways and creating opportunities for students to develop career related and/or postsecondary global learning skills. Elkin City Schools also implements sound practices such as embedding global themes and problem-based learning throughout the curriculum and developing relevant inquiry-based instruction around global issues or themes. Global readiness is consistently embedded in the district’s culture and their well-developed, cutting-edge practices show consistent, high-level student impact.
The district global education strategic plan is firmly in place and supports the development of globally competent students. Engaging global content has been fully integrated into all standards and into all disciplines. Elkin City Schools’ strong partnerships with local global communities, organizations, and nonprofits encourage students to recognize multiple perspectives. These sound, well-embedded practices show a positive impact on students. Elkin City Schools is a leader for other districts to learn from and replicate.
